Greenery Sets The Scenery

Written by Far Hills Florist

At Far Hills Florist, we love to live GREEN. To us, the greenery utilized in an arrangement is just as important as the blooms as it helps set the stage to let the flowers truly shine. While some florists like to hide cheap greens or don't use any greens at all in their arrangements, we prioritize ours as the very foundation that we build upon. Not something to be hidden, but something to be accented and appreciated.

Our arrangements start with a vase carefully lined with variegated aspidistra leaves or deep hued aralia leaves to create a mosaic of texture and color giving our designs top to bottom appeal and coverage. From there, we build a crossing network of variegated oregonia branches to provide structure; however, we don't hide them, but rather we let them reach high and extend out beyond the flowers creating a natural branching component that makes our arrangements feel move alive. For a further textural difference, we then add variegated pittosporum which provides a less rigid texture and large leafing comparison which both emphasizes but also provides differentiation to the oregonia. Like the oregonia, we let portions of this poke through to the service to build a beautiful leafing effect. From there, many of our arrangements receive a final touching green - whether its aromatic spiral eucalyptus, draping seeded eucalyptus, tropical sword fern, slender lily grass, or frilly tree fern - selected specifically to enhance the overal theme of the arrangement.

Greenery is as important to a florist as the flowers themselves and help set the stage and complete the picture for the artistic vision that comes to life. As an added bonus, the greens we chose have a longevity and vibrancy that extends long past the fading of the last flowers - so as your arrangement ages you can still enjoy a vibrant little garden of green - even adding your own flowers!
